Homepage
From the homepage you can access any title in Blackwell Reference Online either through the subject tree, quicklink or the quick search.
Subject Homepage
Subject homepage is reached by selecting a subject from the subject tree on the Homepage. You can select to search within a single subject from this page.
Title Homepage
Each Title Information page is the home page for a book, which may be a single volume or a large multi-volume reference work. You can select to search within a single title from this page.
Full Text
Full Text pages (the content of books within Blackwell Reference Online) comprise four panes:
- Bibliographic Details
- Table of Contents
- Related Titles
- Full Text pane
If the page was reached via a search, there is also a Search Results pane containing navigational links at the top of the left-hand column.
Explore
The Explore feature is a means of filtering and browsing chapters and entries included in Blackwell Reference Online according to the subject, place, period, people and/or key topics that they cover. This feature can be accessed by clicking Explore in the main navigation bar, in the top pane of any page of the site.
Advanced Search
The Advanced Search page can be reached by clicking the link in the navigation bar, in the top pane of any page.
Briefly, to perform a search enter your search term(s) in the Search bar in the left-hand pane, specify any other requirements or restrictions as described below and click SEARCH to proceed.
A group of four check-boxes below the Search bar allow you to specify the types of content that you wish to include in your search. Any combination of Bibliography, Chapter title, Full Text and/or Author is possible.
Search Results
Search Results pages are reached via the Search bar or the Advanced Search page. They allow further refinement of results and browsing of result summaries.
Search Results pages include four panes with the following headings:
- Search Results
- Search term
- Your chosen topics, and
- Choose your topics
