[ xvii ] An anglicized form of Sanskrit Jaggannatha , ‘Lord/Refuge of the World’, an A vatara of V ishnu , identified with K rishna , worshipped at Puri, Orissa. In an important annual festival, the image of Jagannatha is drawn through the streets in a huge temple-car ( see M andira ).
