Lithuanian Yiddish poet and novelist. He was born in Vilnius and became leader of the Yung Vilne literary movement. During World War II he lived in Soviet Russia, later settling in Poland. He subsequently moved to Paris, where he was active in revivifying Yiddish cultural life. Eventually he emigrated to New York, where he was associated with the Yiddish daily Jewish Morning Journal .
