Russian Zionist leader and writer. He was born in Grodno in Belorussia. He participated in the First Zionist Congress in 1897 and those following it. He edited Zionist periodicals in Russia, and later was called to Moscow to edit the monthly journal of the Zionist Organization. He subsequently moved to Lithuania, where he was elected president of the Zionist Organization and edited its newspaper. In 1920 he emigrated to Palestine, and became editor of the daily paper Haaretz . As a writer he published Zionist literature in Russian, Russian anthologies of Hebrew poetry, and a selection of world poetry on Jewish nationalist topics. ... log in or subscribe to read full text
