Kompert, Leopold (1822–1886)

Austrian novelist. He was born in Bohemia. In 1840 he moved to Hungary, where he became editor of the German-language literary periodical Pannonia published in Pressburg. Later he settled in Vienna, where he worked as a journalist. His writings deal with eastern European Jewish life, mixed marriage, and anti-Semitism.
