Morais, Sabato (1823–1897)

American rabbi. He was born in Livorno. At the age of 22 he became assistant Ḥazzan to the Spanish and Portuguese congregation in London. In 1851 he became Ḥazzan to the Mikveh Israel Congregation in Philadelphia. A leading opponent of Reform, he was an Abolitionist during the Civil War.
