Lithuanian Zionist. He was born in Erswilken, and was initially rabbi and rosh yeshivah in a Lithuanian townlet. He later lived in Kovno, Berlin, and Heidelberg, where he taught mathematics at the university. After the pogroms in Russia in 1881 he joined the Ḥibbat Zion movement, and was a delegate to the First Zionist Congress in 1897.
