Shephatiah ben Amittai (fl. 9th cent.)

Italian liturgical poet and religious leader. He lived in Oria in southern Italy. When Abu Aaron came to Italy, he passed on to Shephatiah kabbalistic secrets which Shephatiah used in performing deeds, as recorded in the Chronicle of Ahimaaz . In about 873 Shephatiah traveled to Constantinople to plead for the annulment of anti-Jewish decrees.
