(Hebrew “middot tovot”) In the Jewish tradition virtue is regarded as consisting of practices, actions, and states of mind that conform to God's will. Certain types of virtue, as well as the virtuous life, are extolled in the Bible. In rabbinic and medieval literature, the moral virtues, such as humility, patience, and contentment, are discussed according to various principles of classification.
