(“Committee of Jewish Delegations”) International representative body of Jews. It was founded in Paris in March 1919 to represent Jewish claims at the Paris Peace Conference. With Leo Motzkin at its head, it presented a demand for Jewish rights in various countries (primarily in central and eastern Europe), and was partly successful. Arrangements for the Jews were made in the Treaty of Sèvres (1920) agreed with Turkey, and the Minorities Treaty agreed with the small eastern European states. The Comité remained in existence during the next few decades to protect Jewish rights. Financed primarily by the Zionist Organization, it was succeeded by the World Jewish Congress.
