Jewish dialects fall into two groups. The first consists of local dialects of the language of the country in which the speakers live (Judeo-Aramaic, Judeo-Arabic, Judeo-Persian, Judeo-German, Judeo-Italian, Judeo-Provençal); these differ from the vernacular by preserving old forms of speech or the addition of Hebrew words.
