David ben Samuel ha-Levi (1586–1667)

Polish rabbi and halakhic authority. He was born in the Ukraine. He established his own bet midrash in Kraków, and later served as a rabbi in Posen and Ostrog, where he maintained a yeshivah. During the Chmielnicki pogroms (1648–9), he escaped to a fortress in Ulick. In 1654 he was appointed rabbi of Lwów.
