North American Protestant evangelical apologist. He studied at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, and became a minister of the Bible Presbyterian church, before moving to Switzerland in 1948. Here he established the L'Abri Christian community at Huemoz, a centre attracting thousands of young people, whether Christians seeking to relate their faith to the modern world or non-Christians seeking an alternative to secular humanistic philosophies, especially the prevailing existentialism. He travelled extensively on lecture tours, and other L'Abri centres were established outside Switzerland; his works, written for laypeople, include Escape from Reason (1968), The God Who is There (1968), He is There and He is Not Silent (1972) and How should We then Live? (1980). 1986 : F. A. Schaeffer: Portraits of the Man and his Work . Westchester, I11 . 1986 : Reflections on Francis Schaeffer . Grand Rapids, Mi . ... log in or subscribe to read full text
