[Chinese ] ( k'ai-shu ) An angular, straight-lined form of the Chinese script, kaishu ( kaisho in Japanese) developed during the later Han dynasty (25–220 ce ) from the earlier clerical script ( figure 1 ). The kaishu is the non-cursive standard style of Chinese characters which continues to be used today. See also calligraphy ; chinese scripts .
