A Slavonic language of the eastern branch, Ukrainian has developed a literary standard as of the early decades of the nineteenth century. Using the Cyrillic script, the Ukrainian alphabet is based on the Russian with the three additional letters ∍, I and Ï, but without Ë, ( table 4 ). See also C yrillic. Reading Stechishin 1977.
