English is spoken by at least 1 billion people. Approximately 300 million are native speakers , 300 million speak English as a second language and 100 million as fluent foreign-language speakers. The spread of English has led to the adoption of several versions of standard english (British, American, Australian, New Zealand, etc.) and in some regions (e.g. India) it has also undergone the process of nativization.
