Edwin Amenta is Professor of Sociology at New York University. His research is in political sociology, comparative and historical sociology, social movements, and social policy. He has published articles on these subjects in, among other places, the American Sociological Review , the American Journal of Sociology, Social Forces, Social Problems , and the Annual Review of Sociology . He is completing a book on the consequences of social movements, When Movements Matter: The Impact of the Townsend Plan and U.S. Social Spending Challengers , to be published by Princeton University Press. Robert D. Benford is Professor and Chair of Sociology at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He has published on framing processes, narratives, collective identity, and other social constructionist issues associated with social movements in various journals, including the American Sociological Review , the Annual Review of Sociology, Social Forces, Sociological Quarterly , and the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography . Steven M. Buechler is Professor of Sociology at Minnesota State University, Mankato. His areas of interest include social movements, political economy, and social theory. He has written on women's movements and social movement theory.
