Transformation of certain aspects of Eastern church life to conform to the thought and practices of the Roman Catholic church. (1) Dogma: Eastern Christian communities uniting with the Roman Catholic church are required to accept dogmas defined by the Roman Catholic communion after the schism with the East (e.g. papal infallibility, the immaculate conception and bodily assumption of the Mother of God) and dogmas already a matter of contention between East and West before the schism (e.g the filioque , purgatory). (2) Theology: the terminology, methods and typical doctrinal positions of Western theology were spread among eastern catholic clergy educated in the scholastic tradition and more recently in the theological fashions of twentieth-century Catholic theology, and among eastern orthodox who followed Peter mogila in using Western terminology and methods to express Orthodox doctrine, as well as among Eastern Christians educated in Western universities and colleges. (3) Rites and devotions: typically Latin devotions, such as Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin, were introduced into many Eastern Catholic communities, together with Latin cults such as those of the Sacred Heart or the Immaculate Conception.
