Sadly, as the Blackwell Dictionary of Eastern Christianity was on its way to press, a distinguished contributor, Professor Hilary Armstrong, died. He was a fine scholar and teacher and a remarkable man whose contribution to the study of later Platonism was of seminal importance, especially to students of Eastern Christianity. His work invites a new approach to the relation between philosophy and Christian thought in late antiquity and the early mediaeval period, and will long remain a milestone.
