(1050–1125) Georgian philosopher educated under Michael Psellos and John Italos at the Mangana academy, constantinople and associated with the revival of platonism , especially Neoplatonism. He translated into Georgian works of Aristotle, Nemesius of Emesa's On the Nature of Man and Proclus' Elements of Theology , to which he added a commentary. In 1083 he taught at the Petritsoni monastery at bachkovo in Bulgaria, whence his name. He returned to Georgia under David the Builder (1089–1125) to help establish the gelati academy.
