(d. 1890) Greek nationalist. Originally from loannina, Thomas represented the Epirote rebels in various negotiations, arguing their case in his own newspaper and other publications. ottoman authorities exiled him with other journalists to the Fezzan desert in Libya, where he was brutally killed for refusing to embrace Islam. The circumstances of his death led to his being counted among the new martyrs . Thomas is commemorated on 5 July. See also ethnomartyrs .
