Sixteenth-century ascetic and founder of Olympos monastery by Mount Olympos in Pieria; contemporary and friend of nikanor . Originally a teacher and calligrapher from Platina in Thessaly, he joined one of the Meteora monasteries, then moved to athos , and travelled widely as a pilgrim. Dionysios was elected abbot of Philotheou but left for Verroia after a dispute with the monastery's Bulgarian monks. Olympos monastery, where he ended his life, was a cultural centre for northern Greeks in the ottoman period; it was destroyed during the Second World War. Dionysios is commemorated on 22/23 January.
