A compendium of texts needed by Byzantine rite clergy for celebration of the liturgy, offices, sacraments and other rites, blessings and prayers. In Slavonic the book is called the Trebnik , or Book of Needs. The contents vary from edition to edition, but in Greek it commonly has two forms: the Large Euchologion, which includes a very full series of rites, including those only performed by bishops, such as ordinations, the consecration of churches and the confection of the holy myron (the complex process by which the chrism is made from a large number of ingredients), and the Small, which contains only those normally needed by a priest in the performance of his pastoral duties. Texts of the choir offices and the liturgies are also published separately in a volume for priests, the Hieratikon or, in Slavonic, Sluzebnik. ... log in or subscribe to read full text
