United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (UNCISG)

John O'Connell

Extract

In an attempt to standardize the interpretation of international contracts dealing with imports and exports, the United Nations developed and adopted UNCISG in 1980. UNCISG is an attempt to delineate responsibilities of all parties to trade contracts. Although relatively few nations have become signatories of the agreement, efforts are still underway to garner additional support for reducing trade problems through the adoption of standardized rules governing all or parts of trade transactions.
