veteran status

Ramona L. Paetzold

Extract

Veteran status is a protected category for some federal antidiscrimination purposes. One of the relevant pieces of legislation is the Veterans' Reemployment Rights Act, which provides that an employee who is called to active duty or inactive duty training must be released from employment‐related obligations with a guarantee that he or she may return to the same position with seniority, pay, and other privileges that he or she would have had if the absence from work had not occurred. The US Supreme Court has ruled that the reemployment right lasts as long as the employee is in the armed services.
