Logic A relationship that holds if the truth or falsity of a compound depends on the truth or falsity of its components. A compound of this sort, composed of propositional variables and truth-functional connectives , is a truth-functional formula . If propositions are substituted for the propositional variables in a truth-functional formula, we obtain a truth functional statement , and its truth and falsity is determined entirely by the truth or falsity of its constituent statements and by the way in which the constituent statements are combined by truth-functional connectives.
