Russian religious philosopher, born in Kiev, Professor of Philosophy at University of Moscow before exile in Paris. Berdyaev's religious philosophy emphasized human subjective ethical creativity in a fallen world, although he held that human individuals can achieve their full personality through mystical access to inexpressible knowledge of a noumenal world of values. His existentialist account of the priority on freedom recognizes evil, but links human creativity to the creativity of God.
