English moral philosopher, born in Owsten Ferry, taught at University of Oxford and University of California at Los Angeles. Foot has argued for naturalism and against prescriptivism in ethics, holding that a system of ethical requirements depends on the desires that we actually have. More recently, her work has led to a revival of interest in virtue ethics.
