Austrian-born American mathematical logician and philosopher of mathematics, born in Brunn, Privatdocent at University of Vienna and Professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Princeton. Gödel is famous for his crucial proofs undermining assumptions about the possibility of proving the completeness and consistency of mathematical systems within the systems themselves.
