I editorialize here my gratitude to our authors for their intellectual commitment and gifts of time, expert knowledge, and critical insight. This volume would not exist without such individual generosity. Our collective references should also serve as a general expression of gratitude to all scholars of satire. Satire is an indispensable art form, and scholarship helps keep satire of the past in memory and accessible. The critical comments and suggestions made by my anonymous readers were invaluable.
