Charles P. Price, an American Protestant theologian, worked primarily in the areas of christology, liturgy, and social justice. Price connected his existentialist theology with bold social action, and he achieved a vast legacy in the area of social change both in the United States and throughout the global Anglican Communion. A group of Episcopal leaders wrote, “No single individual had a greater influence on the Episcopal Church in the latter part of the twentieth century” than did Charles Price ( Forward, 2003 , 7). His probing intellect achieved mastery in a wide variety of subjects including theology, mathematics, science, philosophy, and music. His depth of thought is widely respected in many differing arenas. Price created a systematic theology that plumbed the depths of anamnesis for both theology and liturgics. His theology also has ramifications for the areas of social justice and liberation theology. Charles Philip Price was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1941 he graduated from Harvard with a BA summa cum laude, with a concentration in mathematics. He then served in World War II on a Navy destroyer and briefly taught at the Naval Academy. After this experience, he carried a life-long belief about the vitality that can be achieved through duty and sacrifice.
