poet believed by Edward Chitham (1987) to be an important factor in Emily’s creative life and thought. That the atheistic poet’s works had made some headway in Haworth Parsonage is proved in a draft version of part of “Caroline Vernon,” in which there is an attributed quote from Shelley (“wild-eyed charioteers,” from Prometheus Unbound , II, iv, 132). There are other echoes in the poetry, in The Professor ch. 6, and even a possible source for one of Wuthering Heights ’s best known lines in Epipsychidion : “I am not thine: I am a part of thee ” (ll. 51–2).
