home of the Ingham family, where Anne became a governess in April 1839. It was a large, handsome eighteenth-century house, the extensive grounds of which may have afforded Anne some consolation during a trying time. They included a “vinery, peach houses, stable, coach houses, barn and sheds” (Chitham, 1991, pp. 58–61, which has the fullest account of the house).
