brothers, homeopathic doctors. It was to one of them, probably John, that Charlotte wrote an account of Emily’s condition and symptoms on 9 December 1848, 10 days before she died. Epps sent medicine Emily refused to take and an opinion “expressed too obscurely to be of use” (to EN, 19 Dec 1848). Charlotte’s memorandum, printed in Wise and Symington (v. 2, p. 292), was lost for many years, but was rediscovered in 1997 in an autograph book in the British Library collection. ... log in or subscribe to read full text
