On more than one occasion along the way, we wondered what we were thinking when we took on a project of this scale. In the end, however, the encyclopedia of English Renaissance literature came together surprisingly smoothly, and there are numerous people to thank for this: our contributors, who produced wonderful work in a timely fashion, and who remained gracious as we peppered them with queries; our associate editors, Rebecca Lemon, Nicholas McDowell, and Jennifer Richards, who were crucial to every facet of this project and without whom it never would have gotten off the ground; our editor, Emma Bennett, who proposed the project, supported it throughout, and helped ensure that we kept to schedule; and our able production team whose professionalism and good humour were exemplary: Barbara Duke and Tom Bates (production editors at Wiley-Blackwell), and the freelancers Jennifer Cassidento (project manager), Janey Fisher (project manager and copyeditor), Jacqueline Harvey (copyeditor), Helen Kemp, Caroline Richards, and Alta Bridges (proofreaders) and Zeb Korycinska (indexer).
