(Tunisia) Beginning on 14 February 1943, 150,000 forces of the A xis under Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and General Jurgen von Arnim defeated US Army II Corps and French troops in a series of armored actions that drove the Allies 100 miles through Kasserine Pass. British counterattacks stopped the Germans on 22 February and retook Kasserine on 25 February. US casualties: 6,500. Other Allied casualties: 3,500.
