(1) On 29 April 1745, General William P epperrell 's 3,600 Y ankee militia landed on Cape Breton to besiege Louisbourg, which Governor Louis Du Chambon surrendered on 17 June. New England losses: 167 killed (30 dead of disease). French losses: 53 killed, 80 wounded, 600 regulars and 1,300 militia captured, 185 cannon, 18 mortars. (2) On 7 June 1758, a British fleet of 41 ships (1,900 guns and 15,000 sailors) began landing Major General Jeffery A mherst 's 13,000 soldiers near Louisbourg, which Governor Captain Augustin de Drucour surrendered on 27 July 1758. British losses: 172 killed, 354 wounded. French losses: 1,790 killed and wounded (including those hospitalized as sick), 3,847 soldiers (including 2,990 regulars) and 1,790 sailors captured, 8 warships sunk and 3 captured, 221 cannon, 18 mortars, 7,500 muskets, 80,000 cartridges.
