Also known as the “Old Northwest,” this area lay north of the Ohio River and included the present states of Ohio, Ind., Ill., Wis., and Mich. In 1800 Congress dissolved the territory by dividing it into the separate jurisdictions of Ohio Territory and Indiana Territory. Arthur St Clair was its only governor.
