In 1956 William H. Whyte published this study of the corporate culture and attitudes of US business executives. Whyte condemned prevailing attitudes that prized conformity and loyalty to the organization above individuality; he also demonstrated that these values were exerting a negative influence on a broad range of popular attitudes and behavior.
