(N.Y.) On 6 August 1777, Brigadier General Nicholas Herkimer's 600 militia fought off Joseph B rant's 500 I roquois C onfederacy and T ories 10 miles from F ort S tanwix . N.Y. losses: 72 killed, 75 wounded. Indian losses: over 100 killed and wounded. The ambush kept Herkimer from reaching Fort Stanwix.
