In January 1933, Ferdinand Pecora, counsel to the Senate Banking and Currency Committee, began investigating unethical practices in the financial markets. Pecora's hearings were well publicized and revealed numerous examples of price fixing, insider trading, tax avoidance, conflicts of interest, and instances of criminal activity.
