(b. Indianapolis, Ind., 24 July 1932) Having entered politics as an Ind. Representative, Ruckelshaus lost a race for the Senate in 1968, was assistant US attorney general (1969–70), and E nvironmental P rotection A gency (EPA) director (1970–2), before being appointed acting FBI director on 30 April 1972.
