(b. Bow, N.H., 16 July 1821; d. Newton, Mass., 3 December 1910) Following a history of ill health and the death of her first husband by a fever, she experienced relief from a serious injury in 1866 after seeking cure through prayer. This experience led her to the doctrines of spiritual self-healing that became the Christian Scientists’ Association, which was organized in 1876 and chartered as the Church of Christ, Scientist in 1879 at Boston. She established the Mass.
