These goods were articles that could only be exported to world markets from the British colonies after first being landed at a British port. The earliest such items were defined by the N avigation A ct (1660). On the enumerated list were tobacco, rice (with numerous exemptions), indigo, furs, masts, tar, turpentine, hemp, sugar, copper, dyewoods, and ginger.
