On 2 February 1848, Nicholas Trist concluded unauthorized negotiations to end the M exican W ar by this agreement. Mexico accepted the Rio Grande as the boundary of Tex.; it ceded 529,200 square miles (Calif., N.Mex., and parts of Ariz., Utah, Nev., and Colo.) in return for $15,000,000 cash and the assumption of $3,250,000 in claims by US citizens against Mexico.
